June 20, 9am
gloria was able to spend the night in asher's room last night. when i spoke with her this morning she said he did really well in the night. they suctioned his lungs twice, but didn't get a lot of fluid. seems his lungs are doing better. please keep praying for them to stay clear. he also has not had a temperature over the last couple of days, which is really wonderful also. i could really tell that he was more stable after my time with him last night after they had moved him to his intermediate care room. it is amazing the difference between this unit and icu. that has been a hard adjustment for us, but everyone has been really wonderful so far.
we will be taking turns staying with asher throughout the day and night. please pray for gloria to get rested today. she said there wasn't much chance of sleeping last night. i know that we will work this into a schedule and we are very grateful that a number of friends have volunteered to relieve us here from time to time.
i also want to ask you to pray for a mission team that we have working with the widows ministry this week. they are from 7th reformed church, in grand rapids, michigan. their youth pastor is paul yu. unfortunately, i have not had much of a chance to be with them since they arrived saturday night. i went by briefly last night to introduce myself. they asked me for some prayer requests for asher that they could be praying about during the week and while i was giving them i just broke down and had to leave (i know it was because it was father's day). earlier in the day i had experienced something very similar, and had decided that i just couldn't go and meet with the group, but then felt better and thought that i could. i am very glad that i did go. it was so wonderful to be able to meet everyone who has come from such a long way off to help us out for a week. they will be working with dick mason (our projects director) during the day doing construction projects on widow's homes and in the night they will be at the Church of the first born (alfred johnson is the pastor) working with kelly johnson, who is the head of their summer enrichment program, interacting with her youth doing Bible clubs. please pray that they have a safe trip as well as one that allows them to leave feeling they accomplished what they came here for.
please keep praying for asher's brain to be restored. we know that he hears us and that he is trying very hard to respond to commands. please pray for him to not be afraid and to be filled with God's hope.
at around 8 PM this evening it will have been 28 days since asher's fall. we are blessed and extremely thankful for all God is continuing to do in asher to heal his body and the hope He gives to us each day through His mercy and grace.
may the Lord continue to pour out His blessings upon each of you.
figuring it out as we go,
andy mendonsa

Dear Andy,
I received the news about Asher this morning from Brian. I have placed him on my churches prayer list and also sent his name to the prayer chain in Princeton, WV. It was around April that I stopped by your house while I was in Chattanooga visiting with my sons and talked to Asher for a bit. It sounds that you are well supported and I hope that support continues during Ashers healing process.

I was so pleased to learn of this website to be able to follow Asher's progress closely. Yesterday I passed the URL on to the youth at Lookout Valley Baptist Church, many of whom were Asher's classmates at Lookout Valley High and always enjoyed watching his videos. They left this morning for Centrifuge, a week long youth camp in South Carolina where they plan to pass the prayer requests on to youth from all over the East. My daughter Josie is with them and feels a great burden for Asher. I know there will be many prayers sent up there this week.
Thinking of you often throughout my day,

We are encouraged by Asher's progress out of intensive care and with his lungs. We are also encouraged by the ever increasing legions of Saints around the world who are joining in prayer for Asher and for each of you in the family. Our prayers continue unceasingly with those of our brothers and sisters.

Sure glad to find this blog and get daily updates. I am amazed at not just the number of folks praying for Asher - also the earnestness and sense of immediacy. We are praying with urgency at CV Naz too. Grace and peace to you today from the One who burdens us to pray so that He may be glorified in the answer.

i have been praying for asher and your family daily. i don't even remember how i got to this update page but i have been burdened to pray. i remember the day that i heard someone fell in the building then i get this link so i know i am supposed to be praying for asher. in your june 20 entry you mention it was 8pm on the 28th day after the fall. that screams to me romans 8:28. i claim this verse in a lot of circumstances in my life and i claim it today for asher. i anticipate the work of God in his healing that will affirm his faithfullness even to me.

MI WAS PRAYING FOR ASHER AND MY 3 YEAR OLD SON ASKED ME ABOUT HIM. I EXPLAINED HE HAD BEEN HURT VERY BADLY IN A FALL AND HIS BODY WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WAKE UP. I THEN ASKED HIM IF HE WANTED TO PRAY FOR ASHER WITH ME. HE DID AND WHEN WE WERE FINISHED I TOLD HIM IF HE THOUGHT OF ASHER THROUOUT THE DAY SOMETIMES HE COULD PRAY TO GOD BY HIMSELF..HE HAS COME TO ME EVERYSINGLE DAY FOR THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS TELLING ME HE PRAYED FOR ASHER DURING NAP TIME AT SCHOOL OR WHEN IN THE CAR HE ASKS ME TO PRAY WITH HIM...GOD IS EVEN INCLUDING TODDLERS IN BURDEN FOR PRAYER..I WOULD SAY ASHER IS A BLESSED AND WHOLE YOUNG MAN. WE CANT WAIT TO HEAR ABOUT HIS WAKING UP AND WALKING. WE BELIEVE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. GLORY!!!!!

Andy and Gloria,
What an amazing visit it was. What a priviledge also to be with you and your friends/family during this time. Thank you for your gracious kindness toward me in the face of such a trial and burden.
The notes that have been posting are a tremendous encouragement about the faith that is being born and/or developed in Asher (and not only in him but in many others as well) during this trial. There is every reason to praise God and to rejoice in the wondrous work he is doing to conform us to image of his son.
We continue to pray for you all.
Your brother,
adonel
